Impressive start for CHS Cross Country at Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational

Saturday, was the first meet of the season for the Coppell High School Cross Country team.  They competed with over 15 other teams in the 5K races at Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational located in Lakeview Camp. 

The Varsity Girls team finished in 1st place with Junior Maddie Hulcy crossing the finish line in 1st place overall with a personal best time of 18:28.5.  Freshman, Natalie Fleming with a time of 19:05 was close behind her finishing in 2nd place.  Other top Varsity finishers for Coppell were Morgan Colon (19:16.7) in 5th, Chloe Hassman ((19:27.7) in 6th, and Izzy Iseley (19:42.1) in 8th.

The Varsity Boys team also brought back a 1st place finish.  Senior Matteo Agius lead the boys team with a 2nd place overall finish in a personal best time of 16.11.0.  Grant Reese had a strong 4th place finish with a time of 16:20.5.  Other top Varsity finishers for Coppell were Marcos Bohn (16:27.3) in 6th, Nathaniel Leach (16:30.5) in 7th, and Cole Lindbeck (16:44.9) in 11th.

The JV Girls team finished in 2nd place coming in just behind Burleson Centennial with a team score difference of only 5 points.  Junior Jimena Benavides crossed the finish line first for Coppell in 2nd place overall with a time of 21:40.4.  Reezon Eke was right behind her in 4th place and a time of 22:10.8.  Catherine Kimball (22:18.3), Savannah Guitierrez (22:22.0), and Bernice David (22:35.3) rounded out the top five finishers for Coppell in 7th, 8th, and 9th places respectively. 

The JV Boys team was the last Coppell team to run the course.  Freshman Evan Caswell placed 1st overall with an impressive time of 17:15.9.  The next top five finishers for Coppell were Santiago Escalante (17:54.0), Garrett Freddo (17:58.5), AJ Rothwell (18:00.8), and Chris Figueroa (18:03.4) taking 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th places.  Five strong finishes secured another 1st place trophy for Coppell.

Coppell will compete next Saturday, September 2 at the Marcus I Invitational at North Lakes Park in Denton at 7:00 am.  Come and cheer on your Coppell Cowboys!
