#10, Marcelo Gaitan and #11, Nick Taylor both scored in the Cowboys win over Southlake on Friday night.

Last Friday was a perfect night to slay some Dragons and that is exactly what the Cowboys Soccer teams did here in Coppell and in Southlake.  The beautiful weather and "Fill the Stands Night" for CHS and New Tech students brought a big crowd to CHS's Buddy Echols Field to watch the Varsity Cowboys shut out the Dragons with a score of 6-0 in their District home opener.

The Cowboys first goal of the night came from Marcelo Gaitan off of an assist by Tanner Traw.   Traw, who was named Player of the Game for his outstanding contributions to the game, would score two goals of his own with an assist from Gaitan.  The Cowboys went into halftime up by a score of 2-0.  CHS and New Tech students took part in a fun half time kicking competition in hopes of winning three great prizes from Cane's Chicken and a gift card to Tappy's Yogurt.  T-shirts were thrown into the crowd and free pizza was given out to high school students.  It was a fun night had by all.

The Cowboys continued the pressure in the second half and their defense shut down the Dragons at every turn.  Another two goals came from Nick Taylor with assists from Rodrigo Zuniga and Traw.  The final goal would come from an unassisted free kick by Alex Haas about 25 yards out from the Dragon goal.   Earlier in the evening in Southlake, the JV Cowboys had a 5-2 win over the Dragons while the JV2 team came up with a 1-0 win.

The Cowboys had a bye this past Tuesday night after their big 6-0 win over Southlake.  The SIMA Fab 50  #4 nationally ranked undefeated 9-0-2 Cowboys will continue their district play this Friday, February 5th when they travel to Richland to take on the Rebels at 7:30 pm.  Come out and cheer them on!
