Sixteen-year-old Ashley Cain from Coppell had breakout performances recently at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose, California, and she will be contending for a spot on the Olympic team in 2014.

Most skaters only compete in one discipline at nationals, but Cain competed in two, winning the silver medal in the Junior Ladies competition and receiving a standing ovation from the crowd for her Senior Pairs performance with 21-year-old partner Joshua Reagan to music from Dr. Zhivago.

Cain's parents are her coaches, and they have background experience in competitive skating. At the 1980 Olympics, her father, Peter, competed for Australia in pairs skating. Her mother, Darlene, competed for Canada in ice dancing at the national level in the past.
