Nathan Sims (after the race) shows how he endured the muddy conditions.

The Nike Nationals South Region Cross Country Meet was held last Saturday, November 21st in the Woodlands, TX.  The meet showcased some of the top runners from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Oklahoma.  It will go down in the books as one of the dirtiest cross country meets of the year.  Heavy rains flooded the area during the morning hours, but let up just before race time.  Over 1,700 runners battled the muddy conditions including Junior, Nathan Sims, from Coppell High School.

The race had two divisions - Open and Championship.  The Championship division required a qualifying time.  Nathan, who ended his 2015 season as the top boys’ varsity runner on the Coppell Cross Country Team, entered the race as an individual.  His season times qualified him for the boys’ championship division.   After the race, Nathan said, “This was the largest meet that I have ever participated in and it was an eye opening experience.   I would love to see the Coppell Cross Country Team go next year.  Despite the conditions, it was a lot of fun and overall a great experience.”  Nathan placed 102nd in the race after battling the muddy, slippery conditions.

Nathan and the rest of the Coppell High School Cross Country Team are continuing their workouts and will participate in the upcoming track season.
