COPPELL COWGIRLS VARSITY LACROSSE

April 21, 2016

The Push for State Begins.

After a 9-1 record in North District play, the Coppell Cowgirls have their sights set on their ultimate goal: A Texas State Championship.

Their roster features 12 seniors returning from last year’s squad. That team made it to the state championship game in Houston, but saw their dream dashed with a heartbreaking loss in to the host team, St. John’s. This year’s team is poised to make it back to the championship game. And win.

Since their Freshman year, the class of 2016 knew the Texas State Championship would be hosted by the North region, and with Coppell able to secure hosting duties for both the District and State tournaments, the Cowgirls would love nothing more than to win the championship in front of their hometown fans.

The 12 seniors on the team are bolstered by a group of sophomores and juniors that gives the Cowgirls one of the deepest rosters in Texas, and high hopes to make it through the grueling district and state playoff gauntlet.

With an average margin of victory of over 10 goals per game throughout the 2016 campaign, the Cowgirls were able to use their skill and experience to dispatch many traditional North Texas rivals with relative ease. The Cowgirls only stumble came in the next-to-last-game of the season against Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD). After a rough first half and a late second half rally that fell short, the Cowgirls were saddled with a disappointing 12-8 loss.

That slip up has been used as extra motivation by the Cowgirls in preparation for the playoffs. As the #2 seed in the North Texas District, they’re on a collision course to meet #1 seed ESD in the championship game, which will be held this Sunday at 3:30 at Coppell Middle School North. If both teams win their quarter and semi final games, it will set up a girl’s lacrosse showdown for the ages.

*4/24 Sunday, Championship Game @ CMS North, 3:30 pm
