Living Well in Coppell again sponsored Coppell's participation in this year's "It's Time Texas Community Challenge", and for the second year in a row Coppell demonstrated its commitment to healthy living by winning its category! The Community Challenge is a competition across the entire state of Texas which challenges communities of similar size to demonstrate physical and nutritional wellness over a three month period. For 2016 Coppell moved up from the Small to Mid-size city category, and even though we were a new member of this category this year, we won our category with a point total of more than 2x the next closest city.
Living Well in Coppell's focus with the Community Challenge is to increase the participation rate of the community, on a year over year basis. This year Coppell's success was driven once again by the strong participation of the members of the Coppell Senior Center, as well as the staff and students of Coppell ISD, the YMCA and CORE, local businesses and the Chamber, and active citizens.
Coppell will be recognized by It's Time Texas (ITT) at a state-wide awards ceremony, and Mayor Karen Hunt and other Coppell participants of the Challenge, including some of the top participants from the Senior Center and Community Gardens, were recently interviewed by ITT for the award ceremony. In addition to recognition for Coppell as a healthy community, we will also receive a cash award of $1,200 for winning our category, and that money will be used once again by Coppell ISD for wellness programs at our schools.
Our THANKS to all who participated in this year's Challenge!
