On Monday, the Coppell City Council will host a meeting to call a special election, which will happen on May 12, to fill the unexpired but recently vacated Place 3 council seat.

Brianna Hinojosa-Flores, the council member who previously held the seat, resigned so she could run for U.S. Congressional District 6. Whoever is elected to fill the position will serve until May 2014, which is when the term expires.

To file for the position, you must be a qualified voter and a resident of Coppell for a minimum of 12 months preceding the election date. Also, you cannot be "in arrears in the payment of any taxes or other liabilities due to the City."

Anyone who is interested in filing for the position can pick up a candidate packet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the City Secretary's Office at Town Center, which is located at 255 Parkway Blvd. The packets can be submitted beginning March 19 after the City Council meeting until 5 p.m. April 11.
