Junior, Zach Dicken, places 1st and breaks CHS record in 200m.

The CHS Track and Field Team participated in in the 8th Annual Newman Smith Trojan Relays last Saturday, February 20th at Standridge Stadium in Farmer’s Branch.  The Coppell Varsity Boys took an impressive 1st place finish out of 13 area high schools participating in the meet.

Junior, Zach Dicken, led the Varsity Boys by taking 1st place in three events; 200m at 21:45 breaking the CHS school record, 400m at 49.67, and Triple Jump at 45-2.00. 

Seniors, Colin Echols and Andrew Battleson, and Junior, Alan Huo, were also team leaders for the Varsity Boys.  Echols took 1st in Shot Put at 54' 3.00 breaking the CHS school record; and 2nd in Discus at 186' 11.00.  Battleson took 1st in the High Jump at 6-2.00.  Huo took 1st Place in the 800m at 2:02.82; and 2nd in the 1600m at 4:37.26. 

CHS Varsity Girls team took 2nd place at the meet led by the following 1st place finishes:  Senior, Laura Taylor, 3200m at 11:55.75; Sophomore, Payton Kirk, Pole Vault at 12-0.600; Senior, Selase Buatsi, Long Jump at 17-6.00; and the 4x100 relay team of Selase Buatsi, Kaitlyn Hernandez, Payton Kirk, and Rachel Okereke at 49.87.

Both JV teams took 2nd place at the meet.  The JV Boys were led by 1st place finishes of  Freshman, Jeremy Basso, 1st place in 400m at 53.23; Junior, Andres Abrego Guerra, 800m at 2:07.38; Freshman, Jay Dempsey, Discus at 113-01; Freshman, Sebastian Ardilla, Long Jump at 19-05.00; and Sophomore, Matthew Dicken, Triple Jump at 41-08.00. 

JV Girls were led by Junior, Claire Barden, 1st place Shot Put at 32-08.00; Junior, Hannah Pridgen, 2nd place 3200m at 12:52.66; and Freshman, Reilly Ernst, 2nd place 300m Hurdles at 17:82.

The team will host the Coppell Relays on Saturday, February 27th at Coppell High School.  The community is invited to come out and support our CHS track and field athletes.
