Junior, Tori Kellett, was individual team leader for the Varsity Girls at the Mustang Relays.

The Coppell High School Track & Field Team competed at the Creekview Mustang Relays on Thursday, March 24 at Standridge Stadium in Farmers Branch. The Varsity Girls team had outstanding performances and won first place at the meet with a total of 98 points. Team leaders were the 4x400 meter relay team of Lauren Cunningham, Kaitlyn Hernandez, Bryce Utter, and Amarachi Osuji with another 1st place finish at 4:09.45. Individual team leader was Junior, Tori Kellett, with a 1st place finish in the high jump at 5 ft. and a 4th place finish in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.91. Sophomore, Rebecca Fuselier, placed 1st in the pole vault at 10’6”. Fuselier’s performance earned her an Elite Performance Silver distinction and a MileSplit US Second Team ranking. Senior, Selase Buatsi, also finished 1st in the long jump at 16’ 11”. Other point contributors were Junior, Claire Barden, 3rd place in the shot put at 32’ 6.5”; Junior, Lauren Cunningham, 3rd place in the 400 meters at 1:00.77; Sophomore, Kaitlyn Hernandez, 4th place in the 400 meters at 1:02.00; Freshman, Amarachi Osuji, in the 200 meters at 26.41; Junior, Emily Pridgen, 4th place in the pole vault at 9’ 6”; and Freshman, Kathryn Walker, in the discus throw at 87’. The 4x100 relay team of Selase Buatsi, Rachel Okereke, Amarachi Osuji, and Kaitlyn Hernandez finished in 3rd place.

The Junior Varsity Girls team also placed 1st at the meet. Team leaders were the 4x200 relay team of Julia Vishnesky, Preslie ladusau, Alyssa Lindberg, and Trinity Starks finishing 1st at 1:54.49. The Individual team leaders with 1st place finishes were Junior, Sara Smith, in the 100 meter hurdles at 16.96; Junior, Lauren Stukey, in the pole vault at 8’ 6”; and Freshman, Senae Martin, in the 400 meters at 1:04.21. The 300 meter hurdles had two top finishers, Sophomore, Rebecca Copple, 2nd at 52.70; and Freshman, Reilly Ernst, 3rd at 52.83. The long jump had three top finishers, Senior, Kaeli Stayer, 4th at 14’ 3”; Junior, Rachel Crutchfield, 5th at 14’ 3”; and Mary Luckett, 6th at 14’ 2.5”. Triple jump had two top finishers, Sophomore, Senai Buatsi, in 3rd at 31’ 8.75”; and Junior, Abigail Johnson, 5th at 30’ 9.75”. Sophomore, Nadia Scalzo, placed 2nd in the pole vault at 7’ 6”. Alyssa Lindberg finished 4th in the 100 meters at 13.03; and 6th in the 200 meters at 29.04. Senior, Kaeli Stayer, finished 4th in the 400 meters at 1:07.56.

The Varsity Boys had outstanding performances placing 5th overall. Team point leader was the 4x200 relay team of Josh Fink, Matthew Dorrity, Justin Dinka, and Gabriel Lemons. Senior, Colin Echols, was the individual team leader. He finished 1st in the discus throw with at 185’ 8”; and 2nd in the shot put at 49’ 1.75”. Echols’ discus throw earned him an Elite Performance Gold distinction and a MileSplit US First Team ranking. Top performances were also earned by Junior, Trever Larson, 2nd in the pole vault at 13’ 6”; Sophomore, Philip Frank, 4th in the 300 meter hurdles at 41.95; Senior, Andrew Battleson, 3rd in the high jump at 6’; Freshman, Corbin Hicks, 4th in the shot put at 43’ 8.75”; Sophomores, Matthew Dicken and Gabriel Lemons, placed 5th and 6th in the triple jump at 42’ 3.25” and 41’ 11”; and Junior, Carson Reyonlds, 6th in 110 meter hurdles at 15.33.

The Junior Varsity Boys finished in 4th place. Individual team leaders were Sophomore, Jacob Fink, 1st in the pole vault at 10’ 11”; and Freshman, Jay Dempsey, 1st in the discus throw at 111’ 3”; Peirson Greenlee, 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles at 16.66 and 6th in the 300 meter hurdles at 44.66; and Freshman, Sebastian Ardilla, 2nd in the triple jump at 40’ 1” and 5th in the long jump at 18’ 11”. Other top performances included Freshman, Christian Leffingwell, 4th in the 400 meters at 55.67; Freshman, Jonathon Mcgill, 4th in the high jump at 5’ 8”; Sophomore, Kevin Gough, 2nd in the pole vault at 11’; Freshman, Jackson Frederick, 4th in the pole vault at 10’ 6”; and Sophomore, Blake Anderson, 4th in the triple jump at 38’ 4.5”. Three Coppell team members placed in the shot put, Junior, Spencer Laichak, 3rd at 39’ 2.25”; Sophomore, Caleb Thompson, 5th at 38’ 10.25”; and Freshman, Brian Dashner, 6th at 38’ 2”.

The team will be participating at the Allen Relays on Friday, April 1st at Allen High School.
