Coppell High School Band Names Drum Majors for next year

Coppell, TX – Five drum majors have been named to lead the 370-member Coppell High School Band during the 2015-2016 school year.

Senior Jay Harrison will lead the group as Head Drum Major.  Seniors Ryan Cole and Andrew Weaver will serve as Associate Drum Majors, and Juniors Sam Wang and Rishav Rout will serve as Assistant Drum Majors.

“Being selected into the Head Drum Major position means so much to me”, said Harrison, who plays Bari Saxophone, and is the son of Lori and Jim Harrison, “and I am honored to be chosen to continue the traditions”.  Having served as a drum major last year, he acknowledges: “I know coming into this year will be a lot of demanding work, but having seen the end result last year, I couldn't be more excited to do it one last time”.

“Coppell has an incredibly impressive band program”, says Cole, son of Elisabeth and Daron Cole, “and to be one of the heads is a bit overwhelming, but I'm looking forward to the year, and to the show”.  Cole plays French Horn, and looks forward to “hearing the brass from right in front of the band”.  He explains further, “We're known for our brass at marching contests, and hearing the band play from the podium will sound very impressive, I think”.

Weaver, son of Karen and Craig Weaver, revealed that he is “looking forward to getting to work with the full band starting with Summer Band Camp in August”.  The full band practices for many hours twice a day, starting at the beginning of August, to ensure the high standards of the Coppell High School Marching Band will be evident when they take the field and perform for an audience.

Sam Wang, son of Richard and Caroline Wang, plays Clarinet in the CHS Band, as well as piano, guitar and ukulele in his spare time, and recounts that “being drum major has been my goal ever since middle school”.  He is excited and honored to be selected for the position, as is Rishav Rout, who plays Trombone, and is the son of Ranjan and Nikki Rout.

All five drum majors have high expectations for the success of the band, and the performance of the members.  Head drum major Harrison asserts that “My goal for the year is to get everyone in the entire organization to give everything they have.”
