There have been multiple reports of cars being broken into at Coppell day care parking lots over the past several weeks, according to the city of Coppell website. What has been reported happening is suspects are smashing car windows and stealing valuables in a matter of seconds while parents are taking their kids inside the childcare facilities. Purses that were left sitting in plain sight are a common item that has been removed from vehicles.

Local residents are being reminded to conceal valuables that are left in unattended vehicles and notify the police about any suspicious activity. Here are some safety tips from the city about how to avoid having your car broken into:

• Always try to park in well-lighted areas.
• Be sure to use your "secondary anti-theft device" if you have one.
• Lock the lug nuts to your tires since it is not uncommon for thieves to remove wheels.
