Coppell High School Band Receives Honors at State Contest

Coppell, TX – Over two weekends in May, 178 members of the Coppell High School Band travelled to Austin to compete in the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest.  The Coppell High School Band brought home a very impressive 61 First division gold medals and 68 Second division silver medals for a combined 129 medals for Coppell, and had three times the number of students participating than any other band in the state.  To qualify for the contest, the students received first division rankings on their pieces at the UIL Regional Solo Contest.

At the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest, held at the University of Texas at Austin, 14 Coppell students were awarded “Outstanding Soloist” by their judge which is the highest musical honor a musician can achieve in our state. They are: Annabelle Kim on Flute; Madelyn Baker on Flute; Ludia Hong on Flute; Aditya More on Clarinet; Hannah Thorp on Clarinet; Claire Jordan on Bass Clarinet; Giselle Peng on Bassoon; Christopher Stubblefield on Trumpet; Joseph Yamouni on French Horn; John Bishop on Percussion; Alex Johnson on Percussion; Taeeun Kim on Percussion; Alex Copple on Percussion; and Lauren Villanueva on Percussion.  Congratulations to all these students for representing their school and community as UIL State Champions. 

Fourteen is the highest number of Outstanding Soloists in the history of Coppell High School, and is more than any other band program in Texas.

There is an upcoming opportunity to hear many of these talented students play at the Coppell Farmers Market on Saturday June 27th, from 8:00A.M. until noon.  The band is selling tickets for prize drawings, and will play songs from their selections for donations.
