Joshua Brown recently joined Coppell ISD as Director of Coppell High School choirs.  Brown comes to Coppell from Abilene where he spent the last three years as choir director.  He previously served as a director at R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton-Farmers Branch.  Brown will be joined by Will McLean, who is returning to CHS for his second year as assistant director.

When he learned that Coppell was looking for a new director, Brown says that he was immediately interested because Coppell has a great reputation and is known for the talent level of its students. He also likes the fact that Coppell is closer to his family.

He says that during his first few weeks here, the students he’s met have lived up to their reputation, and he’s also been impressed with the level of support he’s received from administrators, colleagues and parents.

Brown says that he enjoys teaching because it gives him the opportunity to develop students’ love of music while also helping them develop character traits such as discipline and teamwork which will allow them to be successful in life after high school. He believes that a quality arts experience is vital to the education of the whole person.

Sarah Bauer, senior choir member and Vivace! Captain says “Mr. Brown is what the choir department has been waiting for. He's got a great track record, as well as lots of energy and enthusiasm.”

Brown holds a Master of Music Degree from Baylor University and a Bachelor's Degree in Music, Magna Cum Laude, from Dallas Baptist University. In 2007, he was selected as one of eight National Graduate Semifinalists in the Choral Conducting Competition of the American Choral Director's Association. Originally from Madisonville, TX, Mr. Brown has one brother who is a graduate student at Texas A&M University.
