In support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Coppell Fire Department firefighters stood on street corners and intersections while holding a firefighter boot to collect donations for the "Fill the Boot" campaign. The result was a record-breaking $26,000 raised for the MDA.

"The Fire Department is extremely thankful to everyone who donated to such a worthy cause," said Coppell Fire Chief Kevin Richardson.

The "Fill the Boot" campaign lasted from June 27 to June 29 and beat last year's total by $8,000.

"We really appreciate the Coppell Fire Department's dedication to this cause," said MDA Fundraising Coordinator Cristy Thieleman. "Coppell firefighters are truly committed to making muscle disease something of the past."

MDA's "Fill the Boot" campaign is supported by fire departments across the entire country, and Texas firefighters have been one of the top raisers. Last year, Texas firefighters raised more than $3 million for MDA, which is the most in the nation.

"Fill the Boot" funds support MDA services locally and nationally, including medical clinics at Children's Medical Center of Dallas, Texas Neurology, Texoma Neurology Associates, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and MDA Summer Camp at John Marc in Meridian.
