Scout Troop 840 to Hold Annual Chili Supper this Saturday

Boy Scout Troop 840 will host its 23rd annual "All You Can Stand" Chili Supper on Saturday, December 3, 5 to 8 p.m., in the Austin Elementary School cafeteria, located at 161 S. Moore Road in Coppell.

Tickets are $8 for the all-you-can-eat dinner, which includes beef or vegetarian chili, hot dogs, baked potatoes, and all the fixings. Additionally, chili may be purchased by the quart for $12. To purchase tickets, contact a Troop 840 member or Rex O'Quinn at rexoquinn@gmail.com. Advance purchase of tickets will ensure that the troop will have enough chili and will also help scouts reach their chili-selling goal.

Proceeds from the chili supper will be used to purchase camping gear, including tents, chairs, knives, hydration packs, sleeping bags, lanterns, and more for the annual Scout Buck Auction in May. Scouts must sell at least $100 in chili tickets to be eligible to participate in the auction, using "scout bucks" that they have earned throughout the year by attending meetings and campouts, advancing in rank, earning merit badges, holding leadership positions, participating in the knot master program and other activities.

Steve Lacey has cooked the chili since the event began 22 years ago as a way to fund the auction. His son, Nathan, now helps with the annual event.

Troop 840, which is led by Scoutmaster Phillip Morse and Senior Patrol Leader Harshith Vanam, meets weekly at Valley Ranch Baptist Church.
