Coppell JV Girls Win 1st Place at Flyin Hawks Invitational

The Coppell High School Cross Country team headed west before sunrise to compete in the Birdville Flyin Hawks Invitational at the TCC Northeast Campus. This was the last meet before the Varsity and JV teams compete at the District Meet on October 19. The JV boys and girls as well as the Varsity boys and girls teams all placed in the Top 5. Head Coach Nick Benton said, “I felt like this was a good meet to finish off the regular season going into the championship season. The athletes are ready to give their best effort at District and any meet they may qualify for afterwards”.

The Varsity Boys and Girls teams both placed fourth overall out of 20+ teams. Leading the varsity boys were Alan Huo and Nathan Sims. Huo and Sims who are juniors, finished 9th and 10th respectively with times of 16:13 and 16:14. Grant Reece, Killian Carlsen-Phelan and Alec Bush rounded out the top 5 finishers for the boys varsity race.

 The Varsity girls were led by senior Laura Taylor (11th) and freshman Maddie Hulcy (15th) with times of 19:23 and 19:35 respectively. Ashley Scrivner (21st), Shiksha Lal (26th), and Lillie Saunders (33rd)finished in the Top 35 to contribute to the team score. They were followed closely by Ardi Saunders (38th) and Taylor Bell (39th).

The JV boys team came in third and were led by freshman Justin Chow who placed 4th overall with a time of 17:33. Six additional runners placed in the top 50 out of 222 total runners. These 6 runners included Tyler Briscoe (13th), Franklin Truax (16th), Nathan Wolford (33rd), Revant Ranjan (38th), Mark Turner (44th) and Aniruth Kasthuri (48th).

JV Girls took first place in the team competition.  Junior, Hannah Pridgen finish 2nd place overall with sophomore, Mattie McKethan close behind in 6th place. Pridgen and McKethan ran times of 21:22 and 21:38 respectively. The JV girls had 7 additional top 30 finishers in the race out of a field of 267 runners.  These ladies are Katy Yut (10th), Taylor Dubey (11th) Catherine Kimball (16th), Miranda Dickson (18th), Joni Goh (21st), Belle Carnes (26th), Kaleigh Keyes (29th).

The CHS Cross Country team will be competing at the District Meet on Monday, October 19, at Bob Jones Park in Southlake, Texas. Go Coppell XC!!!
