Junior Alan Huo Places 21st at Marcus I

Over 2,000 runners participated at the Marcus I Invitational on Saturday, August 29th at North Lake Park in Denton. The meet hosted elite runners from across the state of Texas.   Race participants included Carter Blunt of Frisco Independence High School, the #1 high school boys’ runner in the state, finishing with a time of 15:00.97.  

The Coppell High School Cross Country Team attended the race and finished with strong results.  The Varsity boys shined in the Elite Varsity division with its top two runners placing in the Top 25.  Junior Alan Huo led the race for Coppell finishing 21st with a time of 16:30.44.  Junior Nathan Sims followed placing 25th with a time of 16:33.42.  Senior Killian Carlson rounded out the top three for Coppell with a time of 17:30.57. 

The girls’ varsity team was led by Junior Cali Westervelt with a time of 20:14.67 in the Elite Varsity division.  She was followed by Senior Laura Taylor at 20:21.99 and Junior Ashley Scrivner at 20:55.97.  The race had two Junior Varsity divisions.  Coppell leaders for the Girls and Boys Elite Junior Varsity divisions were Freshman Maddie Hulsey finishing in 9th place with a time of 21:47.99, and Sophomore Grant Reese finishing 14th with a time of  18:31.27.  Coppell leaders for the Girls and Boys Open Junior Varsity divisions were Senior Katie Yut finishing 11th with a time of 23:30.03 and Freshman Justin Chow finishing 6th with a time of 19:25.10.  Coppell finished 3rd overall in the Boys Open Junior Varsity division. 

Head Coach Nick Benton said “The team is adjusting well to the new training program, and I’m very proud of the progress they have made in our short time together.  I’m excited about what the future holds.”  The team will be running this Saturday, September 5th at the Southlake Invitational at Bob Jones Park in Southlake.
