Coppell residents can learn about ways to help the planet while enjoying a variety of fun activities at a public event on Saturday.

Earthfest is being hosted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 28 at Coppell's Town Center Plaza, and the event will have a variety of fun and educational activities for the whole family.

At the event, there will be educational booths, crafts and entertainment for children, live music, a plant sale and a hybrid car show. Also, Earthen Ware vendors will be selling items, including carved wood art, handmade jewelry, organic foods and more.

In addition to the festivities at the Plaza, a "Clean Up, Fix Up, Drop Off" event will be happening in the Town Center Elementary School parking lot for local residents who are doing spring cleaning. Items that will be accepted at the drop-off event include reusable household goods, which will be given to Metrocrest Social Services; household documents, which will be shredded by Shred First; and bulky trash items that need to be disposed. Items that will not be accepted include construction debris, electronics, hazardous waste, appliances with freon, paint and tires.

The Coppell Police Department will also be in the school's parking lot to collect unwanted and unused prescription drugs as a part of the national Prescription Take Back Day event. The purpose of the event is to make sure that the medications get disposed of properly and do not fall into the wrong hands. You can find out more information about the drug take back day at www.dea.gov.
