East Wins Monday Night Battle

The 7th grade East Bronco football team took on the cross-town rival North Cougars on Monday night for an “always epic” battle between the future of Coppell football.  The night started out hot and finished in standard Coppell Cowboy form.

The B-Team started quickly with a 65-yd pass reception from Luke Naranjo to Braden Axe.  After the catch, Axe turned on the after burners and no one could catch him.  The Broncos quickly fired another strike as Matthew Paxton rushed for an East touchdown.  Broncos were ahead 16-0 with the help Neal Sankoorikal as he nailed both of his extra points.  North, however, would not go quietly into the night.  The Cougars made it a ball game by scratching and clawing their way back to a 16-14 score.  Most of the second half was a defensive battle as both teams denied each other the end zone.  With approximately 1:00 minute left, Bryce Autrey scampered in for a long, East Bronco touchdown solidifying the win for the Broncos.  Final score was East 22, North 14.  Player of the game honors go to Matthew Paxton for his great rushing and for his solid defense at outside linebacker.

The A-Team started out fast with a strong defensive stand and an early aerial strike from Landry Fee to Andrew Nelson.  Broncos played solid defense all night long posting a shutout against their cross-town foe.  Middle linebacker Walker Polk lead the East defense the entire night.  The Broncos offensive attack consisted of the aforementioned Nelson touchdown reception, an 80-yard run by Daniel Paek, a touchdown reception by Polk quickly followed by a rushing touchdown by Polk, and topped off with a long rushing touchdown by Isaiah Harris.  Another diamond in the rough the Broncos found was the snapping ability that Sammy Hernandez had successfully hidden from his coaches over the past five games.  A last minute position change allowed Sammy to showcase perfect snaps all night long.  Sammy also had a couple of tackles for loss and a sack from his nose guard position on defense.  Overall, Broncos played well in all aspects of the game.  Final score was Broncos 34, Cougars 0.  Co-players of the game are Sammy Hernandez and Walker Polk.

We face off against the 5-1 Heritage Broncos next Monday at their place.  Come out and support your East Broncos.
