The Coppell Cross Country teams gathered at Bob Jones Park in Southlake with over 25 other schools from North Texas and beyond for their last regular season meet at the Carroll Dragon Cross Country Classic hosted by Southlake Carroll High School.   Several inches of rain the day before the meet made for a murky  5k course, but the runners made no excuses as was evident by the mud they wore to the finish.

Sophomore Maddie Hulcy led the Varsity girls team to a third place finish just behind Prosper high School in second and host team Southlake in first.  She came in 21st place overall  (19:24.26) along with Freshmen teammates Sydney Rowe in 24th, Shelby Spoor in 31st and Izzie Iseley in 36th.  Senior Ashley Scrivner rounded out the top five runners for Coppell in 71st

The JV girls had the best finish for Coppell at the meet coming in second only to Southlake.  Five runners finished in the top 20 earning a medal including Cali Westervelt who finished 3rd with a time of 21:17.62,  followed by Hannah Pridgen in 6th, Zayna Siddiqui in 11th Joni Goh in 12th and Catie Kimball in 13th.

The final race of the morning for Coppell was the JV boys who came away with a fourth place finish.  Grant Evans earned a medal coming in 13th with a  time of 18:04.14 followed by Andres Abrego Guerra and Tyler Sewell in 21st and 29th.  Teammates Harvey Castro and Tyler Briscoe raced each other to the finish coming in 33rd and 34th place separated only by a few tenths of a second.

Coppell must now focus its attention on getting ready for the District 9 6A Championship  on Tuesday, October 18th at Norbuck Park in Dallas, which will be just as much mental as physical.    Since the realignment of the districts, Coppell will now face Jesuit,  Skyline, and White High Schools from Dallas,  and Richardson, Berkner, Lake Highlands and Pearce High Schools from Richardson.  The top three teams from that meet will advance to Regionals on October 29th
