It was a District 5-5A showdown in Carrollton on April 9-10, 2014, as track athletes from Coppell, Denton Ryan, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Hebron and Marcus were all competing for the top four spots in each event, which would earn them the opportunity to advance to the 5A-Area 3 meet to be held at Coppell High School on April 17-18.

After two days of hard-fought competition, The Coppell Cowgirls took Third Place overall in District 5-5A, and will send 15 female athletes to the Area meet. 5-5A District Champions were Alex Fuselier in Pole Vault and Rachel Johnson in Shot Put. Silver Medals were won by Sierra Andres in both the 400m Dash and 200M, Paola Lozano in Pole Vault, Andrea Abel in Triple Jump, and the 4x400m Relay team of Sierra Andres, Bailey Bedichek, Grace Barden and Marian McRae. Third Place qualifiers were Anna Novosadova in 100m and 300m Hurdles, Rosemary Brinegar in Pole Vault, Claire Barden in Shot Put, Sydney Gainer in High Jump, and the 4x100m Relay team of Lauren Cunningham, Adaiwu Nwaiwu, Selase Buatsi and Marian McRae. Fourth Place Area qualifiers were Kylie Pickrell in High Jump, Buatsi in Triple Jump and the 4x200m Relay team of Bedichek, Buatsi, Cunningham and Nwaiwu.

The Cowboys Varsity team came up with a strong Second Place finish for the team, and 13 Area qualifiers. Charles West was District Champion in the 100m Dash, as was Chibuzor Osuji in 110m Hurdles, Bo Anderson in Shot Put and Marcus Mitchell in both Triple Jump and Long Jump. Taking home Silver Medals were the 4x200m Relay team of Alex Abalos, Bryce Vonzurmuehlen, Jacob Murrray and Matt Difrancesco. Bronze Medals went to Troy Parker in 110m Hurdles, Esere Nesiama in Pole Vault, and Colin Echols in Discus. Fourth Place Area qualifiers were Parker in 300m Hurdles, the 4x100m Relay team of Gavin McDaniel, Parker, West and Murray, as well as the 4x400m Relay team of Zach Dicken, Abalos, Mitchell and Vonzurmuehlen.

Coppell will host the 5A meet for Area 2 and Area 3 on April 18 – April 19. The top 4 athletes for each event from each Area will qualify to advance to the Region 1 meet in Lubbock, Texas.
