Coppell hosted Keller Lacrosse on Thursday night, as the Cowboys hoped to even their district record at 1-1. There was more at play than just lacrosse as well, as Coppell and Keller teamed to sponsor “Lace up for LAX,” a charity that supports homeless youth by providing new footwear. The event resulted in over 40 pairs of shoes and over 100 pairs of socks being collected, which will go to help support at-need youth here in DFW through Jonathan’s Place.

On-the-field action got going when Coppell scored a goal by Senior Zach Bartolacci on a pass from Freshmen Gavin Osteen just 74 seconds into the game. The Cowboys added two more unassisted goals by Reese Walker and Osteen, as they controlled possession in the first quarter, which ended with a 3-0 lead for Coppell.

The scoring continued for Coppell in the 2nd quarter as they stretched their halftime lead out to 7-1 on goals by Walker Cain, Bartloacci, Zach Eckley, and Peyton Barron, with assists coming from Osteen, Cain, and Reese Walker. Faceoff midfielder Reece Reynolds helped Coppell dominate possession time by winning over 60% of the face offs in the game.

The defense saw a bit more action in the second half, after only a few Keller possessions in the first half, but the Cowboys offense was able to continue to add goals and finished the game with a 12-5 victory. Close defenseman Colton Delk gathered up 4 ground balls and forced 2 turnovers, and Ethan Bivens again paced the midfielders with 3 ground balls while also adding an unassisted goal.

The offensive leaders on the game were Senior midfielder Reese Walker, with 3 goals and 2 assists, and Freshman Gavin Osteen, with 2 goals and 4 assists.

The Cowboys will now start a difficult stretch of four straight road games as they travel to Houston in eight days to take on Friendswood and Kingwood, before returning back to DFW to play a pair of district opponents at Flower Mound and at Colleyville that following week.
