The Coppell Boys Junior Varsity team has built up a solid season through their first five games of the year, winning 4 of those 5 games, with the only loss coming in a narrow 8-7 defeat to Plano West on the road. The offense has scored an average of 8.5 goals per game so far, including a few games where they slowed down the scoring after building big second half leads.

The Cowboys JV travelled to Houston this weekend, along with the varsity squad, to face two Division 1 South opponents in Kingwood and Friendswood.

The game against Kingwood was a tight battle through the first three quarters, with Coppell leading by 1 goal at the end of each of those quarters. Early scoring for the Cowboys was provided by Dylan Colon, who scored the first two goals (5 goals scored in the game). Next, midfielder Tyler Wendel made a nice feed to attackman Aiden Strickland for a score, and the pair repeated the combination again in the 4th quarter.

With Coppell holding just an 8-7 goal lead after 3 quarters, Jack Leise (2 goals in the game) and Dylan Colon helped put the game out of reach, for a final score of 12-8. Peyton Barron had 1 goal and 4 assists in the game, and led the defensive middies in ground balls as well. Davis Dodd and Colton Delk both grabbed several ground balls and logged solid minutes on defense.

On Sunday, playing against Friendswood JV, Coppell was able to get out to a fast start and an early lead. Sophomore Peyton Barron scored the opening goal on a feed from Freshman Dylan Colon, then Barron turned around and provided the assist on the next score, hitting Sophomore Matt Dean (2 goals on the game) who punched it in for a score.

The defense was able to keep opposing shots to a minimum and Coppell dominated possession time throughout the game. Colton Delk and Reid Robbins both had several take aways and clears for the defense.

Colon finished with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Barron finished with 3 goals and 1 assist. Freshman Tyler Wendel also added a goal and an assist, to help Coppell finish with a 9-4 victory, and bringing their record on the year to 6 wins and just 1 loss. Their next game will be this Thursday at 6 PM against Flower Mound.
