This past Saturday, Coppell Varsity and Junior Varsity Lacrosse teams hosted Seven Lakes Lacrosse, who was visiting from the Houston area. It was a return to game action for Coppell coming out of Spring Break.
In the first game, Coppell’s JV team jumped out to an early lead, and was able to dominate at both ends of the field for the majority of the game. On offense, Coppell was fueled by Freshmen Gavin Osteen (4 goals, 2 assists) and Dylan Colon (3 goals, 2 assists). The Cowboys jumped out to a big first half lead of 7-0, and continued to hold possession for the majority of the 2nd half as well. Others who got in on the scoring action were Tyler Wendel with 2 goals, and Bain Carter and Cole Kaiser, each with 1 goal.
The defensive unit was stingy throughout the majority of the game, posting a shut out through three and a half quarters. Goalie Lee Martin and defensemen Colton Delk, Canon Peters, and Remington Reynolds kept Seven Lakes off balance all game, along with LSM Davis Dodd, who grabbed several nice groundballs at the midfield. The Cowboys JV came away with the 11-2 win.
In the second game between the varsity units, it was a much closer contest, with each team making offensive runs. Seven Lakes was able to strike first on the scoreboard, which started a back and forth scoring battle that stayed within a couple of goals all day, and saw the score tied four different times.
If you have heard of the kid’s game “Find Waldo,” well the Coppell offense on Saturday consisted of a slight variation, called “Find Barto,” as five different Cowboys players were able to find Senior Zach Bartolacci for goals throughout the game, allowing Coppell to keep the game close. Those five assists came from Brandon Point, Peyton Barron, Marc Webb, Colton Delk, and Walker Cain, who had two assists on the day. In addition to the 5-goal outburst by Bartolacci, Freshman Gavin Osteen also scored two goals for Coppell.
On defense for the Cowboys, Colton Delk led the efforts with 3 groundballs and 2 forced turnovers, along with Peyton Barron and Ethan Bivens grabbing 3 groundballs each, and Reece Reynolds won over 75% of the face offs for Coppell. But Seven Lakes was effective with their man-up possessions and was able to hold on to a one-goal lead for the final two minutes of the game to get away with the 9-8 win.
Please come out for Coppell’s next game which will be this Thursday at 7:30 PM at Lesley field. It will be Coppell’s 2nd Annual “Lace up for LAX” event, which benefits homeless youth. Please bring a pair of new youth shoes to gain free admission to the game. All donated shoes will go to Jonathan’s Place, a local organization that supports homeless and in-need youth in the Dallas area.
