The Coppell Boys Lacrosse team got back into action this past weekend when they hosted Kincaid, who traveled in from Houston on their Spring Break. This was the first game for the Cowboys after their Spring Break vacation and is their final game before they start their District games.

Coppell was a bit methodical in the early going, likely shaking off some of the rust from the break. The Cowboy offense got on the board at the 8:52 mark in the first quarter when Sophomore Tyler Wendel found Junior Leo Swaldi for his first goal of the game. Junior Max Lamendola followed that up with an unassisted goal about five minutes later, and Coppell finished the first quarter with a 2-0 lead. The scoring picked up slightly in the second quarter when Senior Walker Cain scored, followed by two more goals by Leo Swaldi on assists from Wendel and Cain, giving Swaldi his fourth consecutive hat trick game, and Coppell had a 5-0 lead at the half.

The most dominating performance of the first half came from the Coppell defense, which held Kincaid, who entered the game averaging over 7 goals per game, to no goals and only 5 attempted shots in the half, and Coppell held Kincaid scoreless in the first three quarters plus four minutes into the final quarter. Sophomore Colton Delk led the defensive unit with 3 groundballs in the game, and Sophomore Cannon Peters added 2 groundballs and 2 forced turnovers, while LSM Remi Reynolds was active again at both ends of the field with 2 ground balls, 1 forced turnover, and 1 goal scored. Junior goalie Hayden MacArthur stopped 8 of 10 shots on cage on the day, and Junior defensemen Reid Robbins had 2 groundballs and 1 forced turnover.

Sophomore Gavin Osteen got the scoring going in the 3rd quarter with a goal and an assist to Senior Brandon Point. Sophomore Bain Carter also notched a goal and an assist in the quarter, and Walker Cain (2 goals, 1 assist) added one more goal to finish the scoring for Coppell, giving them the 10-0 lead after three quarters.

Coppell was again able to play deep into their bench and build up experience among some of their younger players in the fourth quarter. Kincaid scored four times in the final eight minutes to pull the score to 10-4, which was the final. The win moves Coppell to a 5-1 record on the season.

Both the Coppell Boys teams will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20, as they open their District schedule by hosting the Dallas Jesuit Rangers, whose Varsity team enters that game undefeated and ranked #1 in Texas Division 1. Please come out to Lesley Field and support the Cowboys as they will be recognizing the Coppell Boys Youth Lacrosse teams between games. The JV game starts at 6 PM and Varsity will start at 7:30 PM.
