The Cowboys entered their final game of the season on Tuesday night needing a victory to advance to the Texas Division 1 playoffs, but the Allen Eagles were looking to play spoiler to those plans.

Both offenses were a bit slow out of the gate, with no goals scored in the first nine minutes of play, then Allen struck first with two goals in the 1st quarter, plus two more in the early 2nd quarter, and Coppell found themselves behind by a score of 4-1. But that is when the top two points leaders on the season for Coppell got going.  Junior Reese Walker, who already had one goal on the night, scored his second goal, followed by Senior Ben Goyne scoring or assisting on the next four goals, giving Coppell a 6-4 lead. Each team traded a couple goals to close the 3rd quarter with Coppell holding to an 8-6 lead.

The Cowboys posted their strongest 4th quarter effort of the year, putting the game out of reach. Senior Spencer Haddock led the late-game offense with 3 goals and an assist in the final period, and the defense held Allen to a single goal, giving Coppell the 14-7 victory.

Three Cowboys posted hat tricks in the game—Ben Goyne (4 goals, 1 assist), Reese Walker (4 goals), and Spencer Haddock (3 goals, 2 assists). Top defensive efforts in the game came from Seniors Ryan Gordon (6 ground balls, 4 forced turnovers) and Connor Choate (7 ground balls, 1 forced turnover), and goalie Hayden MacArthur posted double-digit saves on the night with ten stops. Sophomore Reece Reynolds had a strong night for Coppell on face-offs, winning possession 78% of the time.

Coppell will not know who their first round opponent will be until all high school games are completed this Friday night, but their next game will likely be Tuesday or Wednesday of next week on the road. Congratulations to the Cowboy coaches and players on their regular season success, and best of luck in the first round of the playoffs.
