Coppell Varsity Lacrosse took on their forth and final Division 1 foe from Houston on Friday, and came away with the win over Kincaid High School, who came into the game with a 4-0 record on the season. Kincaid opened the scoring on a 15-yard bouncer that went just under the crossbar, but Coppell then went on an impressive 6-goal run, which was started off by a diving, over-the-shoulder highlight reel goal from Senior Ben Goyne (2 goals, 1 assist on the game) near the end of the first quarter. Coppell then grabbed another quick goal on a feed from Senior Spencer Haddock to Junior Zach Bartolacci, giving the Cowboys a 2-1 lead to close out the quarter.

The defense clamped down, led by Senior Adam Coberly's 4 ground balls won and 2 forced turnovers, and the offense continued to attack, highlighted by Senior Ripken Reynolds scoring back-to-back unassisted goals, allowing Coppell to open up a sizable 6-1 lead midway through the third quarter. But that is when Kincaid showed some fight, scoring on a loose ball scrum from in front of the crease and then a right alley dodge shot, making it a 6-3 game. Coppell Junior Reese Walker scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season to close out the 3rd quarter.

But the final quarter for the Cowboys was mostly spent fighting off attacks from Kincaid's offense, with the Falcons scoring two more goals to tighten things to a 7-5 Coppell lead. The defensive unit of middies Connor Choate and Joe Fex, and Defensemen Adam Coberly, Dylan Thompson, Ryan Gordon and Harper DeLoach, and Goalie Hayden MacArthur, all played a big role in shutting down the Kincaid offense in the final minutes.

Coppell Varsity will take their 4-1 season record into their District opener on Wednesday, March 8, at 7 PM at Lesley Field in Coppell against St. Marks High School. The JV game will start at 6 PM. The Lacrosse program will be recognizing the CHS Football team that night, and all CHS football players and coaches will be admitted to the games free of charge, so come on out and support the Cowboys.
