The 6A State Champion Coppell Cowboys (18-2-2) began the defense of their title with a comfortable win over Lakeview Centennial on Friday night.  Coppell’s class and athleticism showed from the opening minutes and Lakeview had to work hard all night to keep the game at all close.  Francisco Redondo was on hand to open the scoring at five minutes into the game, finishing off a chance created by good work from Nick Taylor.

Unexpectedly and contrary to the momentum of play, Lakeview stole an equalizer with a powerful header off their only corner kick of the first half.  Nick Taylor quickly restored the Cowboy’s lead with a goal halfway through the first half.

Second half goals from Mo Saif and Bennett Hunter completed the scoring as the Cowboys finished with a comfortable 4-1 victory.

For his creative play in the midfield and his powerful goal, play of the game was awarded to Bennett Hunter.

Next up for the Cowboys is a tough game against #9 ranked The Woodlands on Friday evening.
