Coppell Cowboys Soccer Downs Pearce in District Play

The Coppell Boys Varsity Team (4-1-1) fought past a well-organized and strong Pearce team on Friday night in district play.  Pearce shocked the state champion Coppell Cowboys taking the lead with an early breakaway goal.  Shortly after, Jeremy Basso tied the game scoring off a corner kick.  Pearce continued to test Coppell throughout the first-half but Coppell slowly started to assert themselves on the field.

Soon after the start of the second-half the Coppell pressure finally broke through the stubborn Pearce defense; a shot from Wyatt Priest beat the goal-keeper, but crashed back off the post into the path of Francisco Redondo who soundly found the back of the net and put Coppell ahead.  Coppell doubled their lead midway through the second-half when Francisco Redondo got his second goal of the game after a powerful run and cross from Nick Taylor.

Coppell continued to dominate the rest of the game but was unable to add to their lead.  However, the Cowboys were pleased to get past the talented Pearce team who started the game in first place in the district.

For his two goals and all round strong game Francisco Redondo was named player of the game.

Coppell’s next challenge is an away game against White on Friday, February 3rd at 7:30PM.
