Coppell High School Drumline earns 2nd place in HEB Drumline Contest

Coppell High School kicked off their 2018 contest season this Saturday, September 15, with the HEB Drumline Contest held at Pennington Stadium. This year’s show entitled “TOSKA” was written by Coppell High School’s own, Doug Bush and Patricia Islas.  It features music from Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff.  The drumline is led by Percussion Director Annie Chernow.

The competition hosted over 20 drumlines spanning four different categories:  5A Novice, 5A Advanced, 6A Novice and 6A Advanced.  After a truly fantastic performance, with many lauds by all three of the judges in attendance, the Coppell High School percussion section managed a second place overall finish for the 6A Advanced classification.  In addition, CHS Percussion also won the Outstanding Tenor Line & the Outstanding Bass Line awards for their division!

Front Ensemble section leader and CHS Senior, Pratik Koppikar, states “This is the most elaborate show I've ever played, taught by the most skilled directors in the state, and I'm surrounded by the most driven people in my section - so I couldn't have asked for a better first performance of the season at HEB.”

Coppell’s next Drumline competition will be November 10th at the Lone Star Drumline Contest hosted by Marcus High School.
