Coppell to host the Winter Guard International’s (WGI) Dallas Regional competition on February 9

Coppell High School will host Winter Guard International’s (WGI) Dallas Regional competition on February 9, 2019. 48 high school winter guard organizations from Texas to Oklahoma will perform, including Coppell’s own varsity color guard team.  The Coppell Color Guard came in 3rd place back on January 26 at the NTCA WinterGuard Contest.

Winter Guard is an indoor pageantry activity that involves an array of equipment, movement, and skill. Flags, rifles, sabres and other props are utilized to bring music and themes to life while displaying technique, creativity, and expression. Competition is separated into six classifications based on the complexity of the program and if the color guard is affiliated with a school (scholastic) or not (independent).

WGI Sport of the Arts, a non-profit youth organization, is in its 40th year of existence as the governing body for the competitive winter guard and indoor percussion activities. The “Sport of the Arts” offers a unique blend of artistry and athleticism and is a leader in the pageantry/performance arts community. They had more than 33,000 participants at the regional level, and more than 16,000 participants at the Sport of the Arts World Championships this past April.

Tickets for the WGI competition are $14 for prelims, and $16 for finals. A $26 combo prelims/finals ticket is also available at the box office on the day of the event. For more ticket and schedule information for this and all WGI events, please visit www.wgi.org.
