Coppell encouraging citizens to volunteer for boards, commissions and committees

The city of Coppell is asking its citizens to volunteer for positions on local boards, commissions and committees. Applications for the organizations were mailed to all households in the community on Aug. 1 of this month, and any resident that has lived in Coppell for at least one year and is a registered vote in the city is encouraged to apply.

Below is a list of the organizations that need volunteers and their duties.

Animal Services Advisory and Appeals Board: This board's members hear appeals from citizens concerning the denial or revocation of a pet's registration because it violated the city's Animal Services ordinances.

Board of Adjustment: This board interprets and modifies zoning regulations for the city in particular cases.

Conduct Review Board: Elected officials and citizens serve on this board, which reviews investigation reports from the Special Counsel, decides whether a violation of the Code of Conduct has occurred, and selects what penalties should be assessed if a person is found guilty.

Coppell Education Development Corporation: This corporation finances publicly funded institutions that promote literacy, foreign language and career technology to help people in the workforce.

Economic Development Committee: This committee is responsible for promoting economic development and advising the city about pertinent issues as they relate to projects in the industrial-zoned areas of the community.

Keep Coppell Beautiful Board: This board offers recommendations for city refuse, recycling and environmental management policies.

Library Board: This board is primarily responsible for making informed recommendations about library services and programs.

Parks and Recreation Board: This board advises the city about the planning and development of park and recreational facilities, regulations governing their use, and recommending an annual updtate to the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Planning and Zoning Commission: Makes recommendations to the city about land use issues, such as zoning requests, subdivision plats and changes to the Zoning Ordinance.

Special Counsel: This counsel is comprised of citizen attorneys who volunteer to assist in the initial investigation of Code of Conduct Ordinance complaints.
