The MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon is offering a training program for professionals participating in the SMU COX Corporate Relay Challenge.

The relay will consist of five-member corporate teams who will run the full length of the marathon, and it will occur on Dec. 4, which is the same day as the actual marathon, according to the event website. Corporate teams must be made up of employees from the same company.

A training program titled 5 Months to 5 Miles was created by Diane Proud of the Cooper Fitness Center to help prepare relay participants for the race. The 20-week program offers basic, intermediate and advanced levels that will help participants build endurance over time through running, strength training and flexibility exercises.

The relay-training program began on Monday, but its not too late to get started if you are interested in using the exercise model.

Teams participating in the relay will have an opportunity to win in a variety of categories, including fastest corporate relay team, most corporate relay teams, oldest corporate team and youngest corporate team.

The top three winning teams in each category will have prize money totaling $30,000 awarded to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in the names of their companies. The relay is being limited 6,000 participants (1,200 teams) this year, and more than 120 corporations are expected to participate.

Registration for the relay (and marathon) has opened.

The White Rock Marathon begins and ends at Fair Park, and the course includes a 10-mile loop around White Rock Lake.
