The Coppell High school track season got underway with the Newman Smith Trojan Relays on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Seventeen teams competed in the day-long event held at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton, where cold temperatures and rain played havoc with the schedule and allowed the completion of only eight men's and nine women's event before everyone was sent home.

CHS Varsity Men took Second Place at the meet, getting edged out for the win by Southlake Carroll. The Men's 4x200 Relay team of Charles West, Omari Cole, Connor Wilson, and Brandon Sanders had an impressive First Place finish with a time of 1:32.78.  Coppell Senior Derek Udeh won Third Place in the 110 Meter Hurdles, and Sixth Place went to Carson Vickroy for the 3200 Meter Run. In Field Events, Leighton Light placed Second in Shot Put, while Michael Fix and Josh Escobar placed Second and Fourth respectively in Pole Vault.

Coppell Varsity Women came away with a Third Place finish for the day. The 4x100 Relay team of Maddie Butzer, Haley Smith, Chiamaka Ukoha, and Valerie Osamor crossed the finish line in 49.29 to take Second Place.  Smith also set a new CHS 100 Meter Dash record, clocking a time of 12.04 for Third Place against a really tough field of runners.  In the Women's 400 Meter Run, Osamor finished Third and Leah Yates finished Sixth. It was a strong day for Women's Pole Vault, with Haley Cook, Sarah Agnew, and Rosemary Brinegar winning Second, Fourth, and Fifth respectively.

The Coppell JV Boys finished the meet in Third Place with points from Kilian Bresnehan, PJ Chandler, Robbie Hall, Michael Difransisco,  Colin Ruska, Chibuzor Osuji, Justin Armenta, Chad Williams, and Parker Wilson. JV Girls placed Second with Top Six finishes from Paola Lozano, Kristen Anderson, Alyssa Moino Caroline Adams, Bailey Bedichek, Annmarie Vincenzo, Nicole Francis, Ashley Dicken, Sierra Andres, Grace Barden, Andrea Foster, and Kyndal Runnels.
