28 ATHLETES ADVANCE TO REGION 1-5A MEET IN LUBBOCK

It was a District 7-5A showdown in Coppell on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 10-11, 2012 when eight district rivals converged on the Coppell High School track. Track athletes from Coppell, Southlake Carroll, Keller Fossil Ridge, Saginaw, Denton Guyer, Keller Central, Keller, and Justin Northwest were all competing for the top three spots in each event, which would earn them the opportunity to advance to the Region 1 meet in Lubbock on April 27-28, 2012

After two days of hard-fought competition, The Cowboys Varsity team came up with a District Championship for the team and 17 Regional Qualifiers. District Championship Gold Medal winners for the Cowboys were Derek Udeh in the 110 and 300m Hurdles, Brandon Sanders in the 200m  Dash, Clay Ross in Triple Jump, and the 4x200m Relay team of Charles West, Omari Cole, Connor Wilson and Sanders who set a new CHS record with a time of 1:28.75. Taking home Silver Medals were Troy Parker in the 110m Hurdles, Jason Lister in High Jump, Ross in Long Jump, and Marcus Mitchell in Triple Jump. Bronze Medals went to Chibuzor Osuji in High Jump, Collins Okotcha in Triple Jump, Leighton Light in Shot Put, Landon Grissett in Pole Vault, Gavin McDaniel, West, Chris Bates and Wilson in the record-setting 4x100 Relay, and Chris Adkins, Sanders, Darian Lowe and Udeh the 4x400 Relay which also set a new CHS record. Not qualifying for Regionals, but adding  4th - 6th Place points to the CHS team victory were: Cliftin Fadal, Shane Gothman, Lister, Lowe, Shane Murray, Parker, Soloman Thomas, Carson Vickroy and West.

The Coppell Cowgirls took Second Place in District 7-5A, and will send 11 athletes to Lubbock for the Region 1 meet.  Gold Medals and District Championships went to First Place qualifiers Sarah Agnew in the 800m Run, Cassidy Pickrell who set a new CHS record of 5'6” in High Jump, and Leah Yates, Chiamaka Ukoha, Sierra Andres and Valerie Osamor in the 4x400m Relay. Silver Medals were won by Osamor in the 400m Dash, Haley Smith in the 100m Dash, and Haley Cook in Pole Vault. Third Place qualifiers were Agnew in Pole Vault, Anna Novosadova who set a new CHS record in 100m Hurdles, and Maddie Butzer, Smith, Adaiwu Nwaiwu and Andres in the 4x200m Relay. 4th - 6th place District awards went to: Rosemary Brinegar, Lindsey Meyer, Novosadova, Kylie Pickrell, Sammy Robben, Kate Rorhbough and Yates.

In District 7-5A Junior Varsity action, the Coppell Cowgirls were District Champions, thanks to: First Place – Andrea Abel(2), Andrea Foster, Bailey Bedichek(2), Nicole Francis, Paola Lozano, the JV 4x200m Relay team of Ashley Dicken, AnnMarie Vincenzo, Bedichek and Brandy Sun, and the JV 4x400m Relay team of Abel, Foster, Bedichek and Francis;  Second Place – Bedichek, Julia Bordonaro, Foster, and the JV 4x100m Relay team of Caroline Adams, Vincenzo, Abel and Sun; Third Place - Alex Fuselier;  Fourth Place - Kaleigh Ervin and Amber Johnson(2); and Fifth place - Megan Alberse(2), Kristin Anderson, Jessie Cranmer(2), Guiliana Pena, Lexie Richey, Kyndal Runnels(2), and Sun.

The Cowboys JV brought home Silver from the District meet, with great efforts from: First Place - PJ Chandler, John Herubin, Griffin Smith, and the JV 4x400m Relay team of Tanner Masters, Austin Moore, Brock Ethridge and Chandler; Second Place - Kilian Bresnahan, Herubin, Harrison Holzer, and  Anthony Johnson; Third Place - Bresnahan, Wesley Diers(2), Jacob Murray, Dominic Sharman, the JV 4x100m Relay team of  Johnson, Diers, Matt Difransisco and Colin Ruska, and the JV 4x200m Relay team of Bresnahan, Holzer, Difransisco and Chandler; Fourth Place - Justin Armenta, Herubin, and Eric Stevenson; Fifth Place – Armenta, Leo Fan, Holzer, and Bryce Vonzurmuhlen; and Sixth Place - Creigh Blodget, Vik Kohli, and Ruska.
