One CHS Track athlete traveled to Austin for the 2012 State UIL Track and Field Championships held at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on May 11-12. Nine athletes from across the state competed in each event, with the top three taking home State medals.
Congratulations to 2012 State competitor Cassidy Pickrell, who finished 8th in the High Jump event with a jump of 5'2”.
In other track news, the CHS Team wrapped up a very successful 2012 season with an Awards Banquet, held on Monday, May 14th at Coyote Ridge Golf Club in Carrollton. After a pasta dinner, athletes and their guests were entertained with a slide show, senior farewells, and awards.
During the Awards Ceremony, each athlete was recognized by head coaches Don Kemp and Roxanne Farris. Then, Juniors presented graduating Seniors with a bag tag, customized with their college destination for 2013. Finally, the event wrapped up with individual Varsity awards:
Fighting Heart – Shane Murray and Maddie Butzer
Newcomer – Chibu Osuji and Sierra Andres
Top Runner – Brandon Sanders and Valerie Osamor
Top Field Competitor – Clay Ross and Anna Novosadova
MVP – Derek Udeh and Sarah Agnew
