Coppell Football Service Project - October 18 Blanket Drive Benefitting Austin Street Center
Members of the Coppell Football Team invite the community to join them for a blanket drive benefitting Austin Street Center on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Chipotle Mexican Grill. Chipotle is located at 104 S. Denton Tap Road at Sandy Lake. Prior to Oct. 18th, blankets can be dropped off at Frost Bank in Coppell, Coppell Town Hall and at the Coppell High School field house where collection boxes are located.
Chipotle is hosting a give back night for Coppell Football donating a portion of the evening’s receipts to benefit the needs of the team. In turn, the football team wanted to give back to others.
“The players and coaches realize how blessed we are to be surrounded by such tremendous community support and top notch facilities. We have been looking for a way to help others, and Austin Street Center provided a good fit for us. We look forward to the opportunity to thank members of the Coppell community while paying it forward to those in need,” stated Head Coach Mike DeWitt.
Players will be collecting new or gently used twin size and extra-long twin size blankets. The center hands out blankets 365 days a year.
For over 30 years, Austin Street Center has provided a transitional living facility for those with employment, substance abuse and psychological needs in downtown Dallas.
Supported by volunteers from 120 Dallas-area churches and civic organizations, and funded entirely by individuals and foundations, Austin Street Center accepts no government funding from any level, and no United Way funding. Since its inception, Austin Street Center has provided shelter for an average of 300 men and women – at no cost to the individual.
“It means the world to the team to be able to help those who are less fortunate. We live in a great community and feel it’s our duty to give back. The blanket drive is a great opportunity for the football team to spread joy and warmth to the homeless at Austin Street Center,” said varsity team captain, Eric Loop.
