Troop 840 Boy Scout, Zach Ebert, and CHRISTUS St. Joseph Village-Coppell Director, Mr. Mitchell George

In May 2019, Troop 840 presented two scout-led Eagle Projects in service to the Coppell community.

First, Noah Morse, with the assistance of other Troop 840 scouts, built and installed a “Flag Retirement Drop Box” located in the parking lot of MacArthur Park at 400 S. MacArthur Blvd., Coppell, TX 75019, behind the Church of the Apostles, and in between the baseball fields and dog park.

The United States Flag Code states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”  The box is designed to provide easy and respectful disposal of worn or frayed or “retired” U.S. or State flags.  We encourage the community to feel free to use it for this distinguished purpose and rest assured the flags will be disposed of in accordance with The United States Flag Code.

Second, Zach Ebert designed four raised garden beds for CHRISTUS St. Joseph Village-Coppell.  Zach Ebert chose to complete his eagle service project at CHRISTUS St. Joseph Village because two of his grandparents are residents.  The construction of the garden beds was accomplished by Zach, also with the assistance of fellow Troop 840 scouts, in March 2019.  On Thursday, May 30, 2019, the residents and director of CHRISTUS St. Joseph Village-Coppell officially dedicated their new raised garden, which has been planted with various herbs for use by the kitchen staff.  Space remains for the residents of CHRISTUS St. Joseph Village to add additional plants and flowers.  During the dedication ceremony, the Director, Mr. Mitchell George, commented that the Scouts had done such a great job putting the raised beds together; he had no doubt they could withstand any severe weather, including tornadoes.

Troop 840 is honored to be a part of the Coppell community and will continue to do their part to keep Coppell the “Best Place to Live in Texas”.

BSA Troop 840 meets on Tuesday evenings at the Church of the Apostles, 322 S. MacArthur Blvd, Coppell, TX, and is led by Scoutmaster Craig Warner and Senior Patrol Leader, Manjul Raj.
