On your mark, get set, go ... sign up for the Deck the Trails 5K/Fun Run in Coppell if you are interested in participating, because the event is almost sold out.

On Dec. 1, runners will "Deck the Trails" by competing in an off-road 5K that will take them on new trails in the Coppell Nature Park.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. with a children's fun run, the competitive trail run is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 a.m. on race day.

There will be awards given to the top finishers, including "1st Overall Male & Female, 1st Overall Masters Male & Female, Top 3 Male & Female finishers in the following age groups: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 & over," according to the race's website.

Nov. 29 is the last day to register online, and the cost is $15 for the fun run and $35 for the competitive race, though runners can sign up for $40 for the competitive 5K race on the day of the event if spots are still available.

Money raised by the event will benefit the Coppell Nature Park. Also, people can bring marked and wrapped gifts to the park on race day as donations for the Make a Child Smile program.
